Should my bro use an iPod touch 4 cover for his iPod 3?

My brother has had his iPod for ages now and his friend just recently gave him an angry birds hard case for his iPod touch 3G. He is prone to dropping his iPod and has multiple dints. The case doesn’t even fit properly. I am just wondering, if he drops it on a tiled floor and the impact first hit on the bottom or the top (where it is uncovered) would it smash the screen?
